Computational design and human–AI interaction.

An independent practice focusing on AI-augmented workflows, LLM-based tools, and clear, thoughtful interaction between people and digital systems.

Focus

I work at the intersection of design, software, and AI. The practice centres on practical support for teams exploring how AI can sit within their tools, workflows, and products.

Computational design

Helping designers and organisations express complex built-environment or systems questions as structured, testable workflows and models.

AI-augmented workflows

Designing and prototyping AI-augmented processes, from data preparation and transformation through to analysis and decision support.

Human–AI interaction

Exploring how people reason with large language models, including conversational interfaces, non-linear interaction, and clarity of explanation.

Approach

Work typically begins with a small, concrete question and grows only as far as it needs to. The aim is to produce tools and insights that are understandable, maintainable, and genuinely useful to the people who work with them.

How I can help

  • UX and workflow analysis of digital products and interfaces.
  • Design of interaction patterns for LLM-based and AI-enabled tools.
  • Prototyping for non-linear conversational systems and reasoning support.
  • Structuring design and analysis problems so they can be explored with AI.

Ways of working

  • Short, focused engagements rather than large open-ended projects.
  • Close collaboration with designers, researchers, or product teams.
  • Clear written summaries that capture decisions, limitations, and next steps.
  • Preference for simple, transparent solutions over complex architectures.

Background

Kimm Design & AI is led by Geoff Kimm, a designer and software developer whose work sits between architecture, interaction design, and applied AI.

The practice builds on Geoff's PhD research into human–AI collaboration in design, along with earlier experience in high-reliability fintech systems and computational design teaching and research.

  • PhD in Design (human–AI collaboration in design workflows).
  • Experience in architectural and urban design contexts.
  • Background in software development for financial markets.
  • Ongoing work with universities and research groups on AI-augmented design tools.
